Re: Sparing a testis during vaginoplasty in male-to-female t
- Two of the patients had been on estrogen replacement therapy for many years, and serum testosterone levels were found to have dropped under 1.0 nmol/liter. [Thus in the normal range of females and insufficient to keep it at a higher level, which has been the motivation of sparing a testis by these patients in the first place.)
- Although we did not observe any signs of dysplasia or malignancy in the histologic slides of our patients, testicular malignancies have been correlated to long-term increase of temperature.
- In The Netherlands, castration is of importance for legal reasons as well. To legally change the patient’s sex, the endocrinologist or the surgeon has to certify that the transsexual patient has undergone castration as part of the sex reassignment surgery and, as a result, is no longer able to procreate as a member of the original sex.
